Katie Malfucci, (she/her), OTR/L, MSOT, RYT
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and knew from a young age that I wanted a career in a field where I could help people. In college I studied human services and was interested in practicing physical therapy or teaching special education. While interning at a school for students with developmental and physical delays, I was fortunate enough to observe an occupational therapist working with a preschooler. I had never heard of occupational therapy (OT) before. She explained to me that OT focuses on functional skills, drawing from sciences like psychology and kinesiology; helping people be able to function better by assessing the interacting pieces that we need to participate in daily life. Incorporating body and mind - I was hooked!
I graduated from New York University in 2012 with a Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services - Sociology at SUNY New Paltz in 2006. I am a registered and licensed occupational therapist in the state of New York. When deciding to specialize in pelvic floor therapy, I chose to study with the industry-leading mentors at Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and Lindsey Vestal’s OT Pioneers Pelvic Floor Training continuum. I am also trained in Restore Your Core methodology which uses kinesthetics (the awareness of the positions of your body) to alleviate pelvic floor dysfunction and strengthen the core. I continue to further my education in pelvic floor therapy by offering my time as a teaching assistant in pelvic floor courses and gaining access to the newest research and evidence. I am also a registered yoga teacher and had the privilege to study at Hari Om Yoga School in Sezzadio, Italy.
In addition to pelvic floor therapy my resume in occupational therapy practice is vast. Since graduating in 2012, I have also worked in the following settings: pediatrics with children with Autism and developmental delays, physical rehab with adult, geriatric, and post-surgical clientele at skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient care working primarily with upper body and upper extremity injury.
I live in Brooklyn and enjoy spending time outside with friends, going to the beach, working out, and watching sports.
I have a passion for human services and providing care to those who need it. Anecdotal evidence demonstrates that when individuals with pelvic discomfort seek medical help their symptoms are often ignored, minimized, or dismissed. Should you choose to work with me at Pelvic Therapy NYC you will find not only expertise, but a listening ear, and an environment in which your experiences put you in the driver’s seat of your health outcomes.
